Hydrant Systems That Pass the Flow Test, Every Time

Fire hydrant booster assembly with pressure gauges and test and boost pressure signage, serviced by Safe QLD

Tested at the Booster, Proven at the Gauge

Your hydrant system only matters on one day, the day QFES connects to your booster. Safe QLD tests hydrant systems the way they will actually be used, verifying flows and pressures at the hydrant landing valves and booster connections against the design figures on your block plan.

  • Monthly visual inspections of hydrants, valves and booster cabinets (AS 1851-2012)
  • Six-monthly functional testing of landing valves and hydrant operation
  • Annual flow tests confirming the system meets its AS 2419 design performance
  • Five-yearly overhauls replacing landing valves, check valves and pressure gauges
  • Booster cabinet, block plan and signage checks so QFES crews can operate fast
  • Defect quoting and repairs by our own QBCC licensed technicians

Every test is captured in a detailed digital compliance report, so you have audit-ready evidence of exactly what was tested, what passed and what needs attention.

Common Questions

Sprinkler, Hydrant & Hose Reel FAQs

What is the inspection schedule for fire sprinkler systems?
AS 1851-2012 requires monthly inspections, annual full system tests and five-yearly comprehensive assessments, including pipe flushing and sprinkler head checks. Safe QLD builds all of these routines into a single scheduled maintenance program, so nothing is missed and every result lands in your digital compliance report.
Are flow tests required for fire hydrants?
Yes. AS 1851-2012 requires flow testing during annual and five-yearly inspections to confirm the hydrant system can deliver the water supply the building was designed for under AS 2419. Hydrant systems with pumps also require monthly, six-monthly and annual maintenance routines.
What is involved in a five-yearly hydrant service?
The five-yearly overhaul includes replacing landing valves, check valves and pressure gauges, as specified in AS 1851-2012, along with full flow testing and a detailed condition report. It is the deepest service in the hydrant maintenance cycle and the one most often missed by buildings without a managed program.
Can fire hose reels be used on electrical fires?
No. Water-based hose reels should never be used on electrical fires due to the risk of electrocution. The correct portable extinguisher, such as a CO2 unit, should be used instead. Safe QLD can review your extinguisher coverage alongside your hose reel servicing to make sure every risk in the building is properly covered.
